Dear Fellow Delaware Township Residents:
I wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to our community regarding the Township’s efforts in dealing with the global situation around the Coronavirus (COVID-19). As always, our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of our residents.
At this time, we can report that there are no confirmed cases of the virus in our Township, or in the County of Hunterdon. While we have been fortunate so far to avoid it in our area, there is obviously a very strong likelihood that eventually residents here may be directly impacted.
We are taking action to prepare for things that may come. On behalf of the Township, I was in contact with Governor Murphy last week, on a teleconference that laid out the groundwork for the State’s response to the situation. Additionally, we have been in contact with Hunterdon County officials, our Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Chief Chris Cane, and our US Representative’s office to learn more about the Federal response. The Governor’s office has provided the Township Committee with a direct point of contact within their organization, so we can be sure that any issues impacting our residents will be brought to the attention of the highest level of the State Government.
What this means for you is that we are staying connected, and in regular contact with the appropriate State and County officials. We are asking the same of each of you. If you have any questions or concerns as we work through this challenging time, we need to hear from you. We will do our absolute best to address your needs, and we are committed to providing as much communication as necessary to make sure residents are aware of any changes to procedures, services or closures that would affect you.
In the meantime, please follow the guidelines and recommendations provided by the County, the State and the CDC. You can visit their sites at:
County of Hunterdon – https://www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/coronavirus.html
State of NJ – https://www.nj.gov/health/cd/topics/ncov.shtml
Centers for Disease Control https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
These resources will provide you with regular updates on everything you need to know about the virus, and most importantly, steps to keep yourselves and your families safe at this time.
Our Township is a like a family. We are all here for one another in challenging times like these. While we are concerned for all residents, it’s important for all of us to pay specific attention to the care and safety of our Senior Citizen neighbors. If you have an elderly neighbor, please call to check in on them, offer a helping hand, a meal, or a run to the grocery store. If you are a Senior Citizen and you need help other than medical attention or a doctor’s care, please contact a friend or neighbor. You can also contact me at 908-421-3497. In that case, the members of the Township Committee and I will work to get a volunteer or do whatever we can to help you ourselves.
Stay safe, stay healthy and stay in touch with us, and with one another.
Sincerely,
Charlie Herman
Mayor
Delaware Township
